Vivek Mehra

Vivek is an American artist who was born and raised in India and Southern Africa; he currently travels between his studios in Gurgaon, Haryana and Westford, Massachusetts. His works display a diversity of subject areas and styles reflective of his multi-cultural background and his travels through India, Europe and the United States. Most of his expositions feature landscape work in oil pastel in a mixing of styles - abstract expressionist & realist. While influenced by western artists such as Wolf Kahn, Mark Rothko and Richard Diebenkorn, he simultaneously draws upon his familiarity with the Indian milieu - as is seen in the works of contemporary indian artists such as Manu Parekh, Jatin Das and Paramjit Singh.

As an Indian artist living in the US, he represents a global zeitgeist and suggests an eastern expression alongside occidental modernism. His work therefore often finds a natural leaning for a juxtaposition of bright hues with occasional Indian symbolism. Vivek has attended workshops at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in Providence, Rhode Island and has participated in curated exhibitions, including those by the Boston MFA (Museum of Fine Arts) and The Sundaram Tagore gallery in New York. He has been exhibiting in solo shows over the last 10 years at the Tishman Speyer gallery in Boston and has a permanent exhibit at the Guroo Gallery in Mystic, Connecticut.

Vivek has also been actively donating artwork to benefit 2 India charities: The American India Foundation (AIF), and Pratham. Vivek's works are currently in private collections in the US, UK, Canada, Ireland, Norway and India. His art is part of key collections at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston (a Harvard University teaching hospital), amongst others.
