I was born and raised in Nanaimo, BC and am now currently living in Victoria, BC. I am a third year student at the University of Victoria, where I am working towards completing a bachelor’s of science degree in Health Information Science.
I recently completed one of my three mandatory co-op work terms that is required for my program at Fraser Health Authority in Surrey, BC. I was working as a Student Business Systems Analyst supporting two of the organization’s clinical systems.
I am currently volunteering for the Canadian Blood Services as I wish to be able to make a difference in our community and be able to say that I made a positive impact on another person’s life. It makes my life more meaningful being able to help others and I believe that in donating blood we can all help save many lives. Volunteering at the blood clinic also helps me to continuously improve my skills and gain new experiences in the health care industry.
I enjoy learning foreign languages and experiencing different cultures. In 2014, I completed a Chinese language summer program abroad at the National Taiwan University in Taipei, Taiwan. In the near future, I hope to be able to go on a co-op job outside of Canada. The knowledge that I would gain of other health care systems in the world and how their health care industry functions would be greatly beneficial to my future career in health informatics.
