Vandy Rizaldi is a multidisciplinary artist who challenges himself to work across a broad spectrum, encompassing sound, photography, video, dance, and socially engaged arts. He thrives on collaborating in diverse environments, recognizing that diversity is crucial for nurturing inclusive, open, and vibrant outcomes. He draws inspiration from the everyday mundane, people's generosity, and humor, considering them as driving forces behind his creative endeavors.
Vandy has been residing in Yogyakarta since he pursued a degree in music education. He began his artistic journey by working in various organizations and festivals, such as the Yogyakarta Gamelan Festival, Padepokan Seni Bagong Kussudiardja, and ARTJOG. This was intertwined with his endeavors to create artworks through platforms such as Yogyakarta Synth Ensemble, Jogja Art Weeks, and Jagongan Wagen.
Presently, Vandy is a member of the artist collective MES 56, where he also serves on the programming team. Additionally, he is a member of Yayasan Tonjo Foundation, an artist group focused on redistributing resources within the youth ecosystem, which participated in documenta fifteen. Vandy's passion for gymnastic dance endures through Gymnastik Emporium, that was highlighted at the Indonesian Dance Festival. His curiosity of sounds persists through Isolasido, a social-sound project evolving as a study to empower soundscape ecology.
Recently, Vandy orchestrated numerous collaborations, residencies, and presented artworks at Indonesia's National Culture Week, Lumbung in Western Sydney, Baan-Noorg Biennial, and Jakarta International Photo Festival, where he received an award in it’s Photobook Dummy Awards.
