Laughing Vrock
Vrock in haven
The Legend of the Laughing Vrock
Back in the days of yore, when the demons were banished to the nether realms for their... well... demonic ways. The denizens of the abyssal planes never forgot the humiliating defeat they suffered at the hands of the fair folk. The vrock, both singular and plural by the way, really hated being stuck in the abyss and sought every reason to escape and return to the lands of the fair folk.
One such vrock was summoned to destroy a band of adventurers attempting to desecrate an unholy temple to the powers below. The vrock slowly and cautiously stalked its prey until, just at the right moment, it pounced on the unsuspecting adventurers. The party of hardened companions unleashed spell and blade, grimacing at the horrible site of their adversary, running to and fro on the battlefield to avoid the vrocks terrible claws and beak.
But the vrock watched curiously at these small creatures rushing around it, intent on the vrock’s demise. The eldritch arcs of magic, streaking like magical sprays from the lowliest of creatures in the abyss. The swords of iron and steel slapped against its hide, barely registering to the demonic bird. So ludicrous was the sight that the vrock could not help but laugh, a loud honking squawk that the adventurers covered their ears in horror.
The vrock laughed and laughed, the party attempting to slay the vile beast defending a simple temple. Wiping away a tear, the vrock could not bring itself to slay these fair adventurers and with a quick smirk, it stuck out its tongue and fell over motionless. The fair folk cheered each other, claimed victory over the foul denizen of the abyss, posed over the body so the bard could make a quick charcoal sketch to immortalize the fight, and left the infernal temple with their bags of gold.
And thus the Laughing Vrock decided that instead of killing adventurers, it would try to bring joy to them. It would be no easy feat, as adventurers would try to kill it at every chance, but it persists in its quest undeterred. If you happen to come across the Laughing Vrock, please take his actions in stride, as he seeks only to spread mirth on this plane.
