"A setback, is a set up, for a comeback." These are the words that Dr. Robinson has turned into his teaching mantra. Educated at North Carolina Central University he has lived this reality. In 1993 he graduated with a 2.2 GPA. Two years later, he graduated from NCCU again, this time with a Masters degree with honors. After logging more than 10,000 miles of flight time (flying back and forth from Raleigh/Durham to Washington, DC) he completed his Ph.D. from Howard University in 2011. In his practice as an educator, Dr. Robinson challenges his students to step out of their prescriptive learning norms; thus forcing them to become critical and analytical agents of change. In an interview Dr. Robinson has been quoted as saying, "The university is our classroom; outside the classroom is our laboratory." As a speaker, his topics have ranged from Re-Imaging Black Masculinity, to Single Parenting, to Surviving a Mental Illness Crisis. He has spoken at North Carolina Central University, the city of Durham Department of Social Services, and served as a panelist at Shaw University, Black Issues Forum, and The Colored Pictures Film Festival. His writings have been featured in The Durham Herald Sun, The Independent, under the pseudonym of Walter Russell for Ebony Magazine and the Wall Street Journal. Most recently, Dr. Robinson was featured in the Al Jazera English discussing racisim, algorithms, and technology . Media and cultural criticism represents an endemic passion for Dr. Robinson. His research on race, gender, and class within the confines of the Duke Lacrosse "Rape" Case have resulted in him being sought out for opinion by journalists and documentary filmmakers. Further, Dr. Robinson takes his research to the classroom where on many occasions, he enables students to challenge mainstream news media as well as social media by ways of quantitative and qualitative analysis through media activist projects which are based within the community.
