W3i
Established in 2000 under the name Freeze.com, W3i originally specialized in providing free apps directly to consumers. In 2004, Entrepreneur Magazine listed it as the 31st fastest-growing new business located in the United States. The following year, it acquired Ringtone.com and soon thereafter expanded its staff from 20 to 50. In 2006, W3i co-founders Robert, Ryan, and Aaron Weber won the Minnesota and Dakotas Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year© 2006 Award.
Freeze.com was renamed W3i Holdings, LLC in 2007, and the company reoriented its focus, providing business-to-business application services instead of direct-to-consumer services. The company dedicated itself to supplying monetization and application distribution solutions. W3i developed the InstallIQ™ installation manager, which both assists users during the download process and helps app developers connect with users. W3i's InstallIQ™ was the first installation manager awarded TRUSTe certification.
Selling Ringtone.com for $8.7 million in 2008, W3i focused on developing W3i Mobile, which furnishes iOS developers and advertisers with unique channels to grow distribution and revenue. W3i also funded the marketing and development of mobile-social games; it was the first company to do so.
Today, W3i offers app developers the ability to share their apps with users both in the United States and internationally. On average, the company shares their clients' apps with seven people per second. As a monetization solution, W3i uses targeted advertising to help its clients sell their apps. W3i's clients include Yahoo!®, Norton® by Symantec, Legacy Games, and Gaia Interactive™.
