1. Mount Diablo State Park
This is a great place if you want to get away from everyone and hike for a few hours.
Very beautiful, and a very scenic drive to the top. You do have to pay to get in, but the park has so much to offer you would have to spend the WHOLE day there to actually see most of the park. Definitely would recommend.
Good for kids? Yes!
Good for Dogs? Of Course!
2. Shell Ridge Open Space
Shell Ridge is one of my favorite hidden treasures of this area. It has wooded areas combined with big open grassy spaces, and ponds when the weather allows! I love the off-leash hiking areas, and every dog I've encountered on that trail has been well behaved and appropriate. There is also a good variety of terrain: it goes from flat to steep to everything in between throughout the trail, which makes for an extra good workout!

Good for Dogs? Definitely!
3. Walnut Creek Farmers Market
The Walnut Creek Farmers’ Market is a thriving and wonderful community gathering place with friendly farmers and artisan purveyors offering an array of locally sourced food. A perfect place to meet a friend for coffee or to start the day off with your family, you’ll find many of your grocery needs at your fingertips, including bread, cheese, dips, honey, jams, meats, and olive oil. Enjoy live music from local musicians while you shop the bustling market.
