Jennifer Walsh
I am a junior at the University of Dayton and I am studying Finance as well as Cyber Security Management. I am also a member of the service fraternity, Gamma Epsilon Lambda.
When I am not studying I enjoy volunteering my time with children. As an active and passionate volunteer with Cure SMA, College Mentors for Kids, and Big Brothers Big Sisters I show leadership within my community, as well as dedication to providing a bright future for the youth. Through all three non-profit organizations I have been given to opportunity to meet and bond with a child. Cure SMA provides me the chance to volunteer in the Children’s Program during their annual conference. I spend time with children while their parents attend meetings with doctors and researchers. As a community we spread awareness of Spinal Muscular Atrophy, the number one genetic killer of children ages two and below. For College Mentors for Kids I have been paired with a Dayton inner-city, elementary-aged buddy to promote higher education. As the Treasurer and Vice President of Fundraising for College Mentors I have also become the financial backbone to this program. Big Brothers Big Sisters has given me the opportunity to be a big sister to a Dayton inner-city, sixth grade boy. Together we work through challenging classroom assignments, work on building relationships, and talk about how to avoid risky behaviors. Spending time with children keeps me energetic as I aid to each child’s needs. Whether the child has special needs, comes from a low-income home, or is faced with adversity, he/she never fails to bring happiness and inspiration to my everyday life.
My most recent occupation was with the Event Operations Team for the Chicago Cubs. As a Guest Services Ambassador I greeted and assisted fans to their seats all while creating a memorable experience and providing high quality customer service.
I have also been a summer camp counselor for the past few summers. As a counselor I organized, led, and promoted outdoor recreational activities while fostering skills such as listening, learning, and respect. I also emphasized creating a positive learning environment for all children ages 4-12.
