Walt Eldredge
Walter J. Eldredge graduated in Mechanical Engineering in 1968 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He worked for ExxonMobil Corporation for 47 years in a variety of management and professional positions and played a key role in development and world wide deployment of training in supervisory skills. He and his wife Peggy have five children and live in St. Gabriel, LA near his home town of Baton Rouge. He is a sailor, a backpacker, and an active volunteer in community activities. He served as state President of the Louisiana Council on Child Abuse and as Chairman of the Baton Rouge United way community Partnership Division. He worked actively with environmental groups, and was instrumental in developing an ozone response plan for the Baton Rouge area and Risk Based Corrective Action regulations for the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality. He assisted many not-for-profit agencies with organizational consulting and strategic planning including Catholic Community Services, the Louisiana Health Care Alliance, and Capital Area united Way,
In retirement Walt has become the historian for the U.S. Army 2nd Chemical Battalion, his father’s unit in World War II. He is the author of Finding My Father’s War: The 2nd Chemical Mortar Battalion in World War II and Red Dragons: The 2nd Chemical Mortar Battalion in Korea. He is President of the Red Dragons Veteran’s Association, coordinates reunions for that group, and travels several time yearly to Army posts to give historical presentations.
