Walt Schmidt
Senior Web Applications Architect in North Ridgeville, Ohio
I’m a full-stack web developer and digital strategist with a focus on front-end development and modern, scalable application design. In my role as Director of Online Services for the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen, I lead the strategy and development of digital tools that support membership management, payroll processing, event registration, document workflows, and communications for the national organization.
My work spans full-stack development using technologies like ASP.NET Core, React, and Azure, along with broader responsibilities in analytics, project management, content strategy, and digital media production. I also lead AI initiatives to improve productivity, support, and institutional knowledge across the organization. I use Adobe Creative Cloud for design, video, and motion graphics workflows, supporting cohesive and effective digital communication. I’m experienced in delivering secure, maintainable systems that align with both organizational goals and user needs.
I grew up at the base of the Cedar Point peninsula in Huron, Ohio, and spent six summers in the ’90s working as a landscaper at the park. Cedar Point has been a part of my life since birth. I’m also the co-publisher of PointBuzz, a long-running fan site dedicated to Cedar Point, providing news and community features since 2004.
I’m a Walt Disney World annual passholder and I'm always looking for an excuse to visit Walt Disney World. I’m drawn to the immersive design and richly themed environments. I like to say, "Life is stressful. Mickey is not."
I earned a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology from Penn State University in 1996. I am actively involved with the Penn State Alumni Association Greater Cleveland Chapter, supporting events, college recruitment, and outreach that strengthen the Penn State community in Northeast Ohio.
