Wanyi Zeng
Co-founder of EA SG in Singapore
I started the Effective Altruism (EA) chapter in Singapore in 2016. I was drawn to this global movement through my deep concern in poverty alleviation and the search for effective actions. Over time, I have found causes that I had not considered previously that could lead us to creating a much greater impact in this world.
Currently, our small but dedicated team is focused on building the EA community in Singapore, through engaging with those who believe in an evidence-based and rational approach to do good. Our work includes the Doing Good Better conference on 5th Oct 2019. We also engage with individuals, researchers, philanthropists and students on how to apply EA in their work and lives.
In 2018, I started a side project looking into potentially effective giving opportunities in Asia. The goal is to understand which are the most neglected and solvable poverty-related issues that affect the largest population in Asia. I hope to find out more so that we can be more informed on which are the more cost-effective interventions to target.
I strongly believe that we have what it takes to make the world a better place. Combining our hearts and head, helps us utilise our limited resources much better.
Outside of EA, I was previously a community/youth worker. I also care about the issue of refugees and displacement globally. I had majored in Psychology and Sociology. Getting into learning Development Economics.
My personal interests include travel, long-distance runs, meditation, and home organising.
