A 40+ year love affair with Oriental rugs has blossomed into the Lehigh Valley’s premier rug care experts. Using his down time during travel while working for corporate America, Gary spent years perusing rug markets, dealers, and auctions and talking to people in the industry. Air travels (and delays) were an opportunity for Gary to ingest another book detailing the history, examining the weaving techniques or understanding the difference between vegetable dyes and chromium dyes. His bedside table reading matter was strictly non-fiction!

Kevin fondly remembers Saturdays spent on his father’s shoulders – any auction near Allentown, Bethlehem or Easton might just lead to their next great find.

Together, father and son have continued their immersion in this exciting world. From courses at NYU in Fine Oriental Rug Studies, to their certification with the Appraisers Association of America, from their attendance at Sotheby’s Auction (is this really work?) to the recent request of the Oriental Rug Retailer’s of America for Gary to join the board of directors, from cleaning certifications from the cleantrust (formerly the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration) to the west coast for classes in hand restoration work, Gary and Kevin not only own and operate Ward’s Oriental Rug Service and Gallery, they completely understand their subject matter and continue to attend courses to further their education.
