Watus Solis

New York City

Watus Solis learned the fundamentals of dressmaking from his seamstress grandmother in the Philippines. He immigrated in New York in 1995 and worked for a while as a nurse but his life-long passion in creating clothes led him to pursue further studies in fashion design at the Fashion Institute of Technology. With a work-study program, he chose to apprentice at The Museum at FIT to experience fashion through its vast collections. Assisting conservation technicians in identification, preservation and catalog of priceless couture clothes in its archive, it is here where he studied the techniques of Dior, Valentino, Vionnet, Chanel, Givenchy, Madame Gres, Worth and all other famed fashion designers in creating their own signature styles. It inspired him to go on and create his own label, Watus Solis, where every creation has its own stories to tell, where the dreamer and his dreams are one.
