I've been lecturing on Built Environment Programmes in Higher Education since 2007. The modules that I currently teach in the Atlantic Technological University (Galway) include 'Learning Innovation Skills', 'Surveying and Digital Terrain Modelling', 'Environmental and Energy Sustainability', ‘Research Methods’ and 'Advanced Civil Engineering Software'.

I was awarded a Doctorate of Education in March 2020. My research topic focused on the design, implementation and impact of a digital open badges scheme on a Civil Engineering degree. The findings show that digital open badges increase motivation due to interest, promote engagement by incentivising and rewarding peer learning and attendance, and offer a mechanism for preparing for employment.

I value digital open badges as a means of credentialing achievements and behaviours that may otherwise go unrecognised in the traditional format of a simplistic percentage final grade.

If you are interested in knowing more about using digital open badges then please get in touch and we will arrange a consultation.
