202 Street Medics
Street Medic in Washington, DC
Who we are:
An affinity group of street medics committed to supporting BIPOC-led, queer, or trans organizations in Washington, DC. We are anti-racists, abolitionists, and anti-fascists. We are committed to collective and intersectional liberation, we understand that transphobia, homophobia, classism, sexism, and ableism are inter-connected oppressions—no one will be free until everyone is free.
Our members are vetted through an interview process which covers both scope of practice and individual ideologies to ensure a commitment to our shared values. We are all dedicated to continuous learning to grow our skill sets and practice together to ensure we keep our skills strong.
What We Do:
We practice principles of Do No Harm and Harm Reduction. This means we only provide treatments in our individual scope of care, and we support diversity of tactics without attempting to infringe on the personal autonomy of those engaging in higher-risk tactics. We never tell anyone how to protest; we provide support to anyone who experiences harm in the fight for liberation.
We understand that movements for liberation happen on many fronts. We provide support at protest actions, mutual aid events, or in other environments where our help is requested.
We practice radical consent: We never treat a patient who does not explicitly want our help, or begin a treatment without obtaining consent. We recognize that healthcare institutions in the United States can often be actively harmful to marginalized people and will only connect patients with healthcare institutions with their consent.
We nevertreat or associate with cops, fascists, or other authorities of the state.
