Mark Weir is currently the Director of Community Engagement at Home and Community Care Support Services. In this role, he leads the Community Engagement Team, including a provincial Community of Advisors. This work is guided by the Community Engagement Framework he co-designed with patients, staff, and community organizations and a strategy that supports further engagement across the organization. In this role he has led program and policy design, implementation, evaluation, and reporting.

In his previous role, he built a new 5-year Strategic Plan for Woodstock Hospital based on the input of nearly 1000 members of the community, patients, families, stakeholders, front-line staff, and management. Mark chairs the Coordinating Committee of the Oxford & Area Ontario Health Team and leads the Patient Engagement Action Team.

Before this, he was the Team Lead of the Patient Engagement Secretariat, supporting the Minister's Patient and Family Advisory Council – the inaugural and only council of patients, families, and caregivers advising a provincial Minister of Health in Canada. A key milestone of this work was the development and launch of the Ontario Patient Declaration of Values.

In his career, Mark has helped build several other patient and family council and advisory roles for healthcare decision-making tables. He began his career and at a federal level, engaging patients in health regulatory decisions on health products and devices.

Mark is driven to ensure our healthcare system reflects the needs, values, preferences, and priorities of those who experience care every day and has found ways to have their perspectives inform health policy, quality improvement, evidence development, health system design and delivery.
