Wendy Horton, MBA, PharmD, FACHE, serves as the Senior Vice President and President of Adult Services at UCSF Health, one of the top 10 hospitals in the nation. A respected healthcare leader, she has built her career around advancing strategic growth, operational excellence, and patient-focused care, while remaining committed to improving the well-being of the communities she serves.
She is dedicated to driving innovation in healthcare by enhancing care delivery and integrating new technologies that benefit both patients and healthcare teams. With a strong background in clinical pharmacy and extensive leadership experience at leading academic medical centers, she has established a reputation for combining operational efficiency, safety, and patient-centered excellence.
Before joining UCSF Health, she served as CEO of UVA Health University Medical Center and System COO of UVA Health, a $4.5 billion health system with over 17,000 team members and 1,200 faculty in Charlottesville, Virginia. During her five-year tenure, she led statewide expansion efforts, creating key partnerships and making strategic acquisitions, including community health programs and pediatric behavioral health initiatives. Under her guidance, the organization doubled in size, expanded access to care, and introduced workforce programs like the earn-while-you-learn model. She also emphasized safety, transparency, and open communication through engagement programs, including listening sessions, town halls, and clinical rounds, while reducing the reliance on travel nurses by more than 75%.
Previously, she served as Chief Administrative Officer at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, part of a $4 billion academic health system. She improved faculty engagement, diversity, and recruitment efficiency by over 80%, implemented a $340 million physician compensation plan, and increased research funding by 28.4% to $269.4 million. Earlier, she worked for 12 years at the University of Wisconsin, where she served as Vice President of Operations and oversaw the completion and commissioning of a new hospital.
Her leadership has earned national recognition, including being named a 2023 Top Women Leader in Healthcare by Modern Healthcare. Wendy Horton continues to serve on national boards and remains devoted to advancing healthcare quality, safety, and access for all.
