My name is Wendy Baruchowitz, a proud mother of two boys, wife to husband, Mitch and former mis-diagnosed, isolated and frightened sufferer of what turned out to be POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome), an autonomic disorder that falls under the umbrella term dysautonomia. After finally discovering what I was dealing with, I found the proper medical team and altered my entire lifestyle to include daily exercise and dietary changes as well as adopted a regular protocol to manage my disorder. I even went back to school to become an Integrative Nutrition and Health Counselor, built a private nutrition practice to help others with chronic and/or acute medical conditions and have done several nutrition speaking engagements as a frequent guest lecturer for The LiveStrong Foundation. Additionally, I serve on the Patient Advisory Board of Dysautonomia International and recurrently speak at conferences, support groups and most recently at Harvard Medical School's CME -- educating doctors, patients and caregivers about POTS. I will continue on my mission to spread awareness about this crippling illness, which is far too frequently mis/undiagnosed. Nearly 3 million Americans and 70 million globally are afflicted with dysautonomia and far too many people are suffering. Really suffering. My plan is to change that. I'm one of the lucky ones, given a second chance at life...but now looking at the world through a very different lens: wider, loving, kinder, more forgiving...
