Matthew Werdegar

Litigation attorney Matthew Werdegar continues to enjoy a successful career in San Francisco, where he serves as a Partner at Keker & Van Nest. Named one of the Best Lawyers in America for Intellectual Property Litigation and Patent Litigation in 2012, Mr. Werdegar aids clients by protecting their inventions, trademarks, and other aspects related to copyright and intellectual property. Matthew Werdegar has appeared before the International Trade Commission and handled complex cases in both federal and state courts. He holds membership in American Bar Association and the Association of Business Trial Lawyers, among other groups.

Since joining Keker & Van Nest in 2001, Matthew Werdegar has maintained involvement in a number of high-profile cases, winning for his clients favorable outcomes. He represented Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, for instance, when evidence came to light that one of its competitors had stolen trade secrets. After more than 250 days of deposition and nearly 18 million document pages, Mr. Werdegar and his colleagues secured a jury verdict that resulted in $330 million for Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, which included $130 million in stock. In other successes at Keker & Van Nest, he won victories for Broadcom Corporation and for Comcast Cable Communications, LLC, and he settled a case in federal court for the maker of a celebrated doll line.

Matthew Werdegar holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Juris Doctor from Stanford University, where he earned selection to the Order of the Coif and served as Stanford Law Review's Notes Editor. Additionally, he obtained a Master of Arts from the University of London. When not working, he takes pleasure in a number of outdoor recreational activities, including hiking, scuba diving, and backpacking. He also enjoys dining out and sampling fine wines.
