West
Musician, Father, and Logistics in Duncanville, Texas
Born August 3, 1958 in La Jolla, CA, USA. His parents were in pastoral and mission work from before he was born and they lived in different places around the US such as Waxahachie, TX, Abiliene, TX, and Sweetwater TX before moving to Ceiba, Puerto Rico for 2 years. Later they moved to Mexico, where Gerray's dad encouraged him to learn the guitar around age 9. He mainly learned just to accompany the church services with guitar music. Around the age of 11, he heard "Layla", by Eric Clapton, and some of Carlos Santana's music, and the guitar suddenly took on a whole new meaning! From then on, he learned from listening to albums, copping licks and solos, etc. He was involved with several music groups and bands in college. In the early 80's, he began to be invited to work with different independent christian artists at Salomon Studios in Monterrey Mexico, doing session work for about 4 years. This led to his long time friendship with Cesar Garza and Luis Chi Sing. All three of them eventually ended up as Marcos Witt's first full time road band, traveling to different countries in Latin America during the late 80's, and early 90's. Gerray stayed with Marcos as his guitarist until 1997, working on several significant projects such as "Proyecto AA", "TU y YO", "Alabadle", "Poderoso", and "Vencio" among others. His latest foray into the live music scene was a Live Reunion Concert with Marcos Witt and "bands" at Lakewood Church in Houston on Feb 25, 2011. This project is called MW 25 Conmemorativo. Currently Gerray resides in Duncanville, TX and is in pre production for a long awaited (by himself at least!) instrumental project. Gerray has three children (Roger, Tracy and Whitney), and two beautiful grandsons, Kiel (Tracy) and Owen (Roger).
Hopefully soon available to collaborate on your project if you want the "gerray west" sound! :)
