Elias Gladstone Eton College 2004
Sixth-formers experience life at Eton
LOWER sixth-form students of a Garston secondary school experienced life at one of Britain's top public schools last month, when they enrolled as temporary students at Eton.
Five sixth-formers from Parmiter's School Ben Pilgrim, Scott Taylor, Elias Gladstone, Tom Porter and Oliver Jepson swapped timetabled lessons with Eton counterparts to compare life and learning at one of the country's most historic and prestigious public schools.
Participating student, Elias Gladstone, said: "The common conception that people have of Eton College is that it is an outdated, secretive place.
"Although students do have to stay in during the evenings and attend lessons on Saturdays, most of those preconceptions are myths.
"The school is very modern in its teaching methods and students have very good relationships with their teachers, rather than the authoritarian nature that you might expect from a public school."
Another Eton exchange student, Oliver Jepson, said: "I was shocked by the size of the school, it was more like a village, allowing the public to walk freely through the grounds."
The highlight of the students' week was meeting Sven Goran Erikson, who was there to speak to the Etonians.

Old boys rock festival MORE than 1,000 people turned out to hear the best local bands perform at Parmstock on Saturday, July 16.
The fifth Parmstock musical festival took place at Parmiter's School, Garston, and featured music acts of all styles and genres, ranging from jazz to heavy metal.
The biennial event has been running for ten years, but this weekend could have been the last.
The two teachers who dreamt up the event, and made it happen every year, Jon and Chris De Groot have said this year's Parmstock will be their last.
Jon started the event in 1994, after deciding that "rock music would have a voice at Parmiter's".
Since it began, the festival has been home to a spectrum of musical abilities.
