After being teased about being a “skinny black girl” from the blacktops of the playground to her first “grown-up” role in her career, Whitney Barkley decided to take her four-eyes and slim behind to the World Wide Web to express herself. In October 2014, the Skinny Black Girl’s Code was born to help women overcome obstacles imposed by self-doubt, low self-esteem, and societal constructs to pursue a lifestyle that demands confidence and freedom.

Through her blog, Whitney has been able to reach hundreds of women through multimedia content that focuses on helping them become the best versions of themselves. Over the last three years, Whitney has achieved this goal by interviewing women with compelling stories and partnering with organizations to cover events dedicated to featuring influential women such as Black Tech Weekend, Brand Chicago, and local women’s empowerment events in her hometown, Columbus, Ohio.

She has been featured in HerAgenda.com, Quirktastic, Mashable, Huffington Post, Innov8tiv Magazine, and Empire Life Magazine, and has been a guest contributor to multiple platforms across the internet.

In September 2017, Whitney authored the self-help book, The Skinny Black Girl’s Guide to Freedom to discuss how she conquered colorism, sexual assault, toxic relationships, abortion, and depression to live a life filled with confidence and abundance.

Invite Whitney to make an impactful contribution to conferences, events, podcasts, and blogs that allow her to share her journey to a life without limitations. As a skilled communicator and digital marketing enthusiast with more than five years of experience and education in the digital world, Whitney can share proven strategies to build a reputable blog that creates a tribe, attracts brand-building opportunities, and establishes you as an authority in your lane.
