Wiard Sterk
My career commenced in stage and company management and administration, touring theatre performances on an international circuit and managing small and medium venues. After completing an Art History degree I continued as curator and project manager, developing creative projects within strategic urban regeneration and development programmes. Working with artists, communities and clients in the public and private sectors, I secured substantial investment in commissioning large and longer term creative programmes of temporary and permanent art projects and provided executive and creative leadership for two leading creative agencies. Aware of the catalytic contribution creative practitioners can make in helping to resolve 21st century urban challenges, I established Urban Condition in 2010. UC provides consultancy services by developing creative partnerships, formulating strategic advice and revealing hidden potential in places and communities. In addition, I apply my bilingual (English and Dutch) linguistic skills to translation and writing. Through the latter I explore the interaction between the urban realm and the human condition, as well as producing catalogue essays. Translation work includes art, architecture and design texts, as well as legal and contractual and PR documents, reports and tender documentation. I'm a Fellow of the RSA, Chair of RSA Wales/Cymru and Deputy Chair of the RSA Fellowship Council.
