With early inspirations like Lionel Richie, Michael Jackson, The Temptations & funk groups like Jefferson Airplane, George Clinton, and Sly & the family Stone. Rich musical influences like this that are traditionally listened to inter-generationally, songs that touch an entire family of experiences, have pervaded his sound. Family was a big influence, & its value immediately apparent after the loss of his father. Pain may have hardened his music, but thanks to hip-hop that edge may be an advantage.
