Hi folks.

I'm a journalist interested in data, computer-assisted reporting, web production, and investigations. I currently work as the data and production intern for American Public Media's new investigative reporting team. I am very interested in the philosophy of public media, and want to continue to use technology to explore the ways that digital storytelling can be used in conjunction with audio to produce powerful investigative stories.

I recently graduated from the University of Chicago with a major in Political Science with a focus on violence and democracy. My BA thesis was on IMF loans and their impact on democratic society, but I have also done research projects on drug cartel-state conflicts and other interesting stuff, so feel free to talk to me about that too if you'd like.

I really love long-form journalism, and I have written personal projects on how a Mexican salamander unveiled human's evolutionary origins, the cultural ramifications of the game The Stanley Parable, and the SESAME collider, an unlikely scientific collaboration in the Middle East.

My most recent work before APM has been for KPCC, Southern California's largest NPR member station. I worked as a data reporting intern, utilizing data and computers to extend the reporting powers of the station. I've also done work with In These Times, a progressive politics and news magazine, and The Cancer Letter, an investigative newsletter focusing on corruption and news in the cancer industry. I've reported on strikes, counterfeit chemotherapy drugs, and science policy.

I've contributed writing for The Triple Helix and Diskord as well.

Besides the writing and journalism, I've also assisted with some cool research projects on Nicaraguan sign language, decision making, and Pakistani politics.

This is going to be my stand-in for my website for the time being. I've always been interested in computer programming, so I'm in the process of making a website. You can check that out at craftworks.xyz. You can find me on github and twitter, or shoot me an email at wcraft1204 [at] gmail
