Born and educated in Scotland, best known as ‘Will Cross’ he lived in London for 30 years and is a retired Civil Servant. A writer, lecturer and researcher based now in Newport, Gwent, South Wales. He is the author/ co- author of seven books on members of the Morgan family of Tredegar House, Newport, and six books on the Herberts ( Carnarvons ) of Highclere Castle ( Downton Abbey ). Will is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland and a member of the Society of Authors.

He is currently working on a book on Lady Winifred Burghclere, mother of four very troublesome daughters, including Evelyn Gardner, the first wife of the writer Evelyn Waugh, and another about Lady Rosemary Leveson-Gower, one of the sweethearts of Edward, Prince of Wales ( later Duke of Windsor). Rosemary died in a mysterious plane crash over Kent, in 1930. The Prince of Wales was supposed to be on that plane.
