William Berghold

A retired New York stockbroker, William D. Berghold initiated his career in at Merrill Lynch in the early 1960s, working first as a trainee then as an Account Executive. After becoming a member of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), Mr. Berghold quickly moved up in the ranks, obtaining positions as a Partner at several prominent firms. During the early years of his career, Mr. Berghold was a Partner with Hubschmen, Fleschner, Inc.; Hirshon Roth & Co.; and M.J. Meehan & Co. Mr. Berghold left M.J. Meehan & Co. after nine years to join the specialist firm Stern Brothers & Co., enjoying a career that lasted nearly two decades. In 1995, he retired from Stern Brothers. He has since moved to the Midwest, where he enjoys an active lifestyle. Mr. Berghold often goes hiking in the mountains and fishing. He also participates in lure coursing, a competition for dogs that involves chasing an artificial lure through an obstacle course. Although Mr. Berghold built a reputation for success in the world of finance, he is also known for his extensive charitable work. William D. Berghold has supported numerous child-focused organizations through regular contributions and volunteer work. One of the nonprofit groups where Mr. Berghold was especially active is Covenant House New York, a Christian-based shelter for young adults in crisis, many of whom have been living on the street or in unsafe conditions. William D. Berghold became the shelter’s first full-time volunteers. He also spent time volunteering at the Hole in the Wall Camp in Ashford, Connecticut, part of a network of camps for children with serious health issues. Mr. Berghold has also maintained a strong commitment to Camphill, a network of intentional communities that serve children and adults with disabilities. For Camphill Village USA in New York, Mr. Berghold served on the Board of Directors, and also oversaw the organization’s investments as head of the Investment Committee.
