I believe existing and emerging technologies for digital and online interaction will have an significant impact on the design of future learning environments. I am currently investigating the possibilities and challenges inherent in designs that bring face-to-face and remote students together at the same time with the goal of creating comparable learning and instructional experiences for everyone involved. I believe this research will have important implications for concepts dealing with technological pedagogical content knowledge (TPACK), teachers’ professional development, educational technology integration, situational creativity, space/place advocacy, and access to learning opportunities for disadvantaged students. Through my research at the CEPSE/COE Design Studio, I am also helping faculty in the College of Education to design, develop, and implement models for concurrent (synchronous) hybrid learning in formal and informal learning environments using multimodal forms of communication and interaction.
