William Summerlin
For the last 25 years, Dr. William Summerlin has operated a private dermatology practice in northwest Arkansas. His office, Summerlin Dermatology Clinic in Bentonville, earned an award for Excellence in Patient Care owing to the high quality of his medical care.
A graduate of Emory University, Dr. William Summerlin began his medical career as a surgeon serving with the Army Medical Corps burn unit in San Antonio, Texas. After his time there, he pursued a fellowship at Stanford University in dermatology. During this time, he rose through the ranks, becoming Director of the University's outpatient dermatology clinic then Head of Dermatology at the Stanford VA Hospital.
Dr. Summerlin subsequently began a research fellowship at the University of Minnesota and later traveled to New York to continue his work. However, after a falling out with his research project mentor, he left the field to enter private practice, relocating to New Orleans. He spent 10 years there, teaching at Tulane University School of Medicine and serving on the Hospital Board of Trustees. Dr. William Summerlin next moved to Arkansas, where he has resided and practiced ever since. He recently earned recognition from Emory University, his alma mater, in the form of the Heart of the University Award, an honor bestowed upon outstanding graduates. Dr. Summerlin has also begun working on a book on American medical history.
Dr. Summerlin maintains his edge in the field through membership with a number of medical associations, including the American College of Allergy, Asthma, & Immunology; the American College of Sports Medicine; the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, the International Association of Burn Injury, and the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery.
