A longtime resident of greater Dallas/Ft. Worth, TX, former Denton County sheriff William B. Travis holds a bachelor of public administration from the University of Mississippi in Oxford and a diploma from the National Sheriff's Institute in Aurora, Colorado. He got his start in law enforcement as a patrol officer with the Dallas Police Department. Mr. Travis went on to serve four years as a security officer with the U.S. Air Force Reserve and seven years as a special agent with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

Elected Denton County sheriff and serving from 2013 to 2016, Mr. Travis was responsible for enforcing civil/criminal law within the incorporated and unincorporated areas of Denton County, as well as maintaining county jails, providing county court security, and serving court documents and warrants. This position placed him in charge of 250 sworn officers and 440 jail and administrative employees. Since retiring as sheriff, he has concentrated on investment opportunities as the 30-year president of X-Ray Business Solutions.
