Will is the kid who is up for anything, so when mom saw a post in a Facebook homeschool group for USA Luge slider search sponsored by Pilot Chemical, Will said, "sure, let's go!" Will had a blast at the slider search, maneuvering the wheeled sleds down the Cincinnati hill near his home. Of the nearly 1000 athletes nationwide that came out to the slider search, about 120 were chosen by USA Luge to come to Lake Placid, NY for an extended tryout on the ice. Will got the email that he had been chosen and immediately realized he had a conflict with the Christmas time tryout as he had just been chosen as Fritz in Frisch's Presents Cincinnati Ballet's The Nutcracker. USA Luge worked with Will and scheduled him for the extended tryout in March 2015. His training with the Cincinnati Ballet really paid off during the tryout since one of the needed skills for luge is pointing your toes!

A few months later and the email came - Congratulations! You've been selected for Team USA - Luge D team, the Olympic development training team out of Lake Placid, NY. This summer, Will had his first training camp at the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid and will spend another eight weeks there this winter training for the fastest sport on ice!

At home in Oakley in Cincinnati, OH when he's not sliding, Will is getting ready to acheive his Life Scout rank in Boy Scouts, plays junior high soccer for Clark Montessori High School and Buckeye Premiere League team The Hornets. Will is active at Crossroads Community church and also attends youth group at Hyde Park Methodist church. He volunteers as a peer mentor with special needs students and has fun calling bingo at Deupree House retirement home.

Will is homeschooled with his younger sister Isabella and an older brother Nathan. He loves to travel and recently got back from Muskegon, Michigan where he got in some wheeled training and met up with other Luge team mates.

Support my journey in chasing the American dream!
