Willie Mae Burgs was born in Boyce, Louisiana. She attended Houston public schools and graduated from Jack Yates Senior High School. She earned a B.S. degree from the University of Houston and a M.S. degree in Ed from Texas Southern University. As a passionate Educator she was and still is today very dedicated to the growth and development of today's youth in Houston and surrounding communities.
For five years Willie served as the coordinator for the Gifted and Talented Program at Fondren Elementary School in Houston, Texas and later in 1997 she was honored with her first Teacher of the Year Award and again in 1998 she humbly received the Teacher of the Year for the second time from (HISD) Houston Independent School District to wide acclaim.
An accomplished Educator for 35 years, Willie received additional honors from the Houston Chapter of the Women of Achievement, and from the Houston Metro Southeast Chapter of the Women of Achievement for her outstanding service both to the community and as a teaching professional. She is the Author of Reading Made Easy: "101 Ways to Teach Your Child to Read Like a Pro" The book is sold on Amazon and bookstores everywhere.
She has been a member of the Alpha Kappa Sorority for more than 30 years and serves presently as the Chairman for the Retirement Education/Planning Committee and she serves on the Board for the Houston-Harris County Retired Teachers Association.
