Hi! Thanks for checking this page out - about me - in a nutshell!
I am an AHPRA registered Occupational Therapist and Australian Lymphology Association (ALA) accredited practitioner for the Upper Limb, Breast and Trunk.
My career interests are firmly in provision of holistic care, bridging the gap between mental and physical health, and overall health and wellbeing across the lifespan.
Despite learning about the existence of ‘OT’ on a bus stop ad in 2014, my choice in becoming an OT was no accident. Prior to my entry into the world of being a mature aged student, I intuitively understood that health care required attention through a holistic lens. But not knowing much about career options, and being passionate about mental health, I began my education to become a psychologist.
When I found OT and realised it encompasses so much more than mental health, taking into account the complex relationship between things like the environment (e.g. physical, relationships, economic), sensory factors, physical factors (anatomy, physiology), culture and spirituality, I was so compelled to do it that my impostor syndrome, in that instance anyway, thankfully lost the battle.
Fast forward 10 years, and somewhat magically, this experience has not only enriched my life with skills that enable me to help other people, it has helped me understand myself more and I am fortunate to have identified my lived experience of combined type ADHD, receiving diagnosis later in life. A game changer!
Given the lifelong challenges that living with undiagnosed ADHD has presented, I am particularly passionate about mental health and being part of the evolution of embracing neurodiversity, neuroaffirming practice and enabling early intervention through sharing knowledge and collaboration.
Having experienced debilitating and chronic burnout, I am also particularly passionate about practising well-being and maintaining a work-life balance.
As well as expanding into Neurodivergent Adults and being an ALA Lymphoedema Practitioner, I am experienced in Aged Care, providing me with invaluable knowledge and understanding of the long term impacts of health conditions if left untreated or dismissed as ‘nothing’.
I have developed sharp clinical reasoning skills for holistic, thorough assessment, and intervention, focussed on person centred goals.
I have recently launched my own private practice called It’s A Practise.
I have many other interests and I love a yarn, so if we cross paths please feel free to ask!
