Sir Winston Leonard Spencer-Churchill, KG, OM, CH, TD, DL, FRS, RA (30 November 1874 – 24 January 1965) the famous British military politician was born into an aristocratic family of the Dukes of Marlborough on November, 30, 1874.

He spent his early years in Dublin and also had his basic education within the city. His initial interest in the military began in Dublin when he was opportune to watch regular presidential military parades. While growing up as a young chap, Churchill encountered several challenges. He lost his father at a very tender age. He also had a speech impediment. He was never deterred by such life challenges. He still went ahead to make his mark in life despite the challenges.

Military Interest

Churchill’s interest in the military received a boost when he applied to attend the famous Royal Military College located in Sandhurst in 1893. Actually, he failed to secure admission into the college 3 times. He refused to give up. He later scaled through after taking the entrance exams the third time. He opted to be trained for the cavalry instead of the infantry. After completing the training, he was commissioned on 20th February 1895, as a “Cornet” or 2nd Lieutenant in the 4th Queen’s Own Hussars.

Marriage

In 1908, Winston Churchill got married to his wife, Clementine Hozier after meeting with her previously at two different occasions. The marriage was blessed with five children namely; Diana, Randolph, Sarah, Marigold, and Mary.

Further Military Career

Winston Churchill kept scaling higher in his military career after his marriage. He was appointed Regimental Colonel of the 4th Hussars in 1941. Shortly after the Second World War, he was promoted to be the Colonel-in-Chief. His monthly pay and allowances also increased with the new appointment. Later on, he became highly interested in war correspondence. He served as a war correspondent and also wrote several books showcasing his campaigns. His status as a war correspondent took him to several military campaigns in various nations such as Cuba, India, Egypt, Sudan, and South Africa.

Political Career

In 1900, Winston Churchill came back to England shortly after his military exploits in South Africa. He went for the parliament in Oldham where contested the 1900 general election and also won. Shortly after that, he went on a speaking tour in Britain, US and Canada. He was later deselected in the seat of Oldh
