Wisteria was founded in 2011 by Gwendalynn Guthrie. A devoted mother of eight and designer of many things from interiors to fashion she began her dream as an expressive outlet and means to sell her gemstone and sterling silver jewelry. Wisteria Boutique opened in the spring of 2011 in a 359 sq foot space. The idea was to give the many talented women in her small community of 3,000 an opportunity to do same. In the beginning Wisteria had over 20 vendors each selling handcrafted items such as hats, baby items, accessories, and other goods. By the end of her first year in business, the space had become too crowded with lovely curiosities to even shop. When customers began requesting clothing, Gwendalynn felt it was time to move.
Today Wisteria is in its third year of business. Having moved to its third and final location in Rexburg, Idaho, Wisteria boutique is primarily a clothing boutique with just a few of the original vendors left i.e. hats and jewelry. Gwendalynn fills the racks with only a few trendy pieces and focuses on her love of fashion inspired by the past. There you will find beautiful crochet and lace trimmed dresses and tops mixed in with colored skinny denim and vintage inspired motor jackets. Blending the inspirations of yesterday with the trends of today is something Gwendalynn does well, creating an eclectic style of her own.
Gwendalynn is currently working on launching her own label, something she has wanted to do for many years now. This fall you can expect mini collections each with their own vintage/retro voice. Steampunk will be introduced with its Victorian influences of corsets, longer skirts with updated bustles and overcoats with tails. This collection will have mixture of leather and lace with lots of hardware and darker hues of coffee, burgundy, olive and grey. Another collection will be a softer romantic one, inspired by the Mori Girl. Lots of layers of comfy sweaters with crochet cuffs over sweet dresses worn with ruffled boot socks and boots in softer tones of cream and dusty rose and mocha.
Gwendalynn believes in the idea that history repeats itself, and this is certainly true in the fashion industry. She has started to write her “Fun Fashion Facts” on her Facebook page where she references the ideas of today’s trends and where they originated. You can follow her on Facebook to receive updates of new items, sales and giveaways. This is what she said about her boutique,
“It’s as
