(As a child, I grew up admiring people with the strength for any form of physical activity regardless what sport it was. I did not find myself mixed up with the “typical African stereotype” where every young boy dreamt of being a famous soccer player. Rather, I enjoyed shooting hoops and nothing else. With time I became good at it and found myself addicted to this new passion. The adrenaline and cheers from peers and the occasional pats on the back from people I looked up to made me want to better myself. It’s been years and the thrill of stepping onto a court is as the first time. So now, I am sure some are wondering why start a sports event. The answer lies in YOU!! Everyone who came out to support me on the weekend of the 4th of July 2008, I am grateful. The success of the team’s participation, sponsorships and the enormous turn out from you my friends made the premiere of WITNESS promotion a huge success.
