Witt Salley

Dr. Witt Salley has worked in higher education since 2003 in a variety of positions focused on academic innovation, online education, and instructional technology. He is the incoming Associate Provost of the newly formed Center for Teaching and Learning at Maryland University of Integrative Health, a regionally accredited graduate institution bridging ancient wisdom and contemporary science to educate and train the best integrative healthcare practitioners.Dr. Salley's most immediate past academic leadership appointments include Dean of the School of Online Education and Interim Dean of the School of Education at Virginia International University. Previously, Salley served as the founding Executive Director of Clemson Online, the e-learning arm of Clemson University, and as College Director of OTC Online, the virtual campus of Missouri's third largest community college system.
In addition to his administrative posts, Salley has held several faculty appointments. Most recently, Salley was Visiting Instructor of Educational Foundations at Clemson University, where he taught online graduate courses in e-learning leadership, open education, and research methods. From September 2008 until December 2016, Salley was graduate faculty at California State University, East Bay, in the M.S.Ed. in Online Teaching and Learning program — the same program he completed in 2005.
Salley has presented at numerous statewide, national, and international conferences — including the Conference on College Composition and Communication, Distance Learning Administration Conference, and United States Distance Learning Association National Conference. Salley's professional volunteer positions have included South Central Representative of the Instructional Technology Council (ITC) and Vice President, President, and Past President of the Missouri Distance Learning Association (MoDLA). For 3.5 years, Salley was a consultant for the Online Learning Consortium (OLC).
Salley is a graduate of the Penn State University and OLC Institute for Emerging Leadership in Online Learning as well as the ITC Distance Learning Leadership Academy. Additionally, Salley holds an Ed.D. in E-Learning from Northcentral University. Complementing his advanced degrees in online education are 22 graduate hours toward a M.A. in Technical and Professional Writing, as well as a B.S. in Professional Writing (summa cum laude), from Missouri State University.
