Dr. Walter J. Turnbull Music Foundation

The WJT Music Foundation will develop, sustain and strengthen programs that have as their core mission using music and choral performance to address the development of young people and the positive empowerment of the communities in which they live. This is the driving force behind the creation of the W JT music foundation.

The foundation has as its focus;

The total development of boys and girls faced with academic and social challenges
inherent in the neighborhood in which they live. Fostering and supporting the principles of hard work, honesty and achievement which will be strengthened and channeled using music and choral performing as a catalyst.

The WJT foundation will strive through its programming and funding to be a catalyst for systemic changes in how positive youth development, artistic, academic, and social attitudes and behaviors are developed, practiced, and viewed by the society in which we live.

The Foundation's initial focus will seek to develop/redevelop The New Boys Choir and Girls Choir of Harlem. We will use a high expectation nurturing environment with the objective of re-establishing one of the country's national treasures, greatest national and international ambassadors and a saver of lives particularly in urban communities. From this platform it will establish the Turnbull Institute, which will have the objective of teaching the methodologies developed and used by Dr. Walter J. Turnbull to establish the world renowned Boys Choir of Harlem, Inc. The institute will develop and enhance the ability and skills of individuals
committed to replicating the artistic, academic, and social success that was
the Boys Choir of Harlem. This model addresses the philosophical question/dilemma raised by Aristotle as to the importance of nurturing not only
the intellectual through academic education but the soul through character
education as well.
