William Lawson III
My name is William Lawson and I am currently a freshman at The Ohio State University majoring in exercise science.
The results from my StrengthsQuest assignment showed me that my top 5 strengths were Restorative, Empathy, Achiever, Harmony, and Competition. The strength that I most feel connected with is empathy. To me, empathy is the ability to understand and care about what other people may be going through. I feel most connected with this because I try my best to make a point of truly being understanding when it comes to other people's lives. Being empathetic is a very important thing to me, and I think some of the most successful people are the ones who can see things from other peoples perspectives. Being empathetic is something that has an impact in every aspect and every stage of life.
In my short time in the EHE 1100 survey class, I have learned quite a few things. The "Lessons from a First Year Buckeye" assignment really allowed me to reflect on my first semester here. In a way, I kind of learned exactly what it was that college has taught me so far. In this assignment I gave 5 points of advice I would give to an incoming students. The advice I gave was to keep their door open, make a daily schedule, get ahead of their work early, stay in touch with old friends, and keep their room clean.
The "My Ohio State Tradition" was one of my favorite assignments. For this, I was to pick my favorite Ohio State Tradition, find a picture of it, and describe it. The tradition I chose was watching all of the Buckeye games with the friends I made from my floor. This tradition is important to me because it is what being a buckeye is all about. Going out and making friends also goes back to a piece of advise I gave in the "Lessons from a First Year Buckeye" assignment. This assignment helped teach me that Buckeye traditions are the best when shared with others and that it's ok to go out of your way to meet new people. Hopefully this tradition will continue throughout the years!
