Hair transplant has come a long way from the traditional methods. In the past hair transplant required cutting of the scalp, knifes, stitches and other painful procedures with little or no guarantee for improvement. The patient could not see the follicles being planted on his scalp and little or no growth was made. Moreover, the Hair Transplant Surgery alone cost a fortune to the patients. All of this changed due to the brilliance of one man; Dr. Ray Woods.
Dr. Ray Woods obtained his M.B.B.S degree from Sydney Medical School University in 1982. He was an expert in many fields related to medical science such as Neurology, trauma, medicine, skin cancer surgery, obstetrics and cosmetic dermatological surgery. His true dream was re-inventing Hair Transplant Surgery and in 1989 he began his research. Shortly afterwards he made the world’s first Hair Transplant breakthrough.
Dr. Ray Woods created two techniques that opposed the traditional method of hair transplant. His first method was FUE or Follicular Unit Extraction where follicles were planted on the scalp and the patient could see this method on the monitors, which were placed around him so he can get a better view of all the angles. This method had little scalp invasive and had faster healing time in comparison to the traditional hair transplant methods. This technique is widely accepted worldwide and is the most popular hair transplant technique today.
With the invention of FUE Dr. Ray Woods was able to develop BHT or Body Hair Transplant. With this method hair was cut from the patient’s chest, arm or other parts of the body and then transplanted to the thinning hair or bald parts of the scalp which allowed growth of natural hair. These two methods are now widely used worldwide and Dr. Ray Woods has become the face of Hair Transplantation.
