Worthington Ophthalmology

Worthington, Ohio, United States

The first manifestation of Worthington Ophthalmology was founded in 1949 by optometrist Jack Albright upon his return from World War II. His son James joined his father's family optometry practice in 1976. A third doctor, Steven Schnulo, joined the Albrights in 1990 after graduating from Ohio State, Jack's alma mater. In 1996, after 47 years of practicing optometry, Jack Albright passed away, leaving his son Jim and partner Steve to run the Worthington Family practice of Optometry. The two have now been practicing in Worthington for 37 and 23 years, respectively.

A third Albright has also returned to the Columbus, Ohio, area. Continuing the family tradition, Trent Albright, MD, returned to Worthington with the encouragement of Drs. Jim Albright and Steve Schnulo and began his own practice: Worthington Ophthalmology. The practice specializes in eye surgery, and Dr. Trent Albright has training and experience in all areas of ophthalmology.

A few of the procedures commonly performed by the clinic include:

  • Cataract Surgery. The most successful surgery that can be performed (with a 95 percent success rate), this removes the damaged lens and replaces it with an artificial lens that will resist further cataract growth.
  • Secondary Cataract Surgery. Occasionally, scar tissue will build up on the back of the artificial lens, which can be fixed with a simple and quick laser procedure.
  • Laser Vision Correction Surgeries. Laser surgery can be used to correct a variety of eye disorders. Farsightedness, nearsightedness, and astigmatisms are all refractive errors that can be corrected through laser procedures.
