My friends and family call me Bill.

I grew up in a 'blue collar" family in a rural areal of Western Pennsylvania, roughly located between the villages of Edinburg and New Wilmington. I was the first in my family to go to college.

My childhood was tough because my father was an alcoholic who had dropped out of high school. I worked in his small TV repair shop when I was a teen. I hated his drinking, his cruelty and his beatings. As a result of seeing his addiction and decline, I have been a non-drinker my entire life.

I put myself through college and law school. I chose to open my law office in an economically depressed rust belt town. I have spent my career representing poor and elderly.

Family: My wife & I have been married 47 years. We have 3 wonderful children and four grandchildren.

Our daughter (40) graduated from Yale University in '07. She received her first Master's degree at Oxford University in '10 and a second Master's Degree from USC in '17. Our oldest son (38) graduated from Cornell University in '09. He earned his Master's degree at the University of Pittsburgh, where he presently teaches. Our youngest son (29) earned his degree in graphic design from Edinboro University in 2019.

My wife and I work together each day in the storefront law office I opened in Swissvale in 1984. I am still working full time at age 70.

Interests: I have been collecting antique paperweights for nearly 50 years. I have been asked to speak at national conferences about the hobby and I have authored a half dozen nationally published articles on the subject.

My other passion is travel. I have visited more than 50 countries, all 7 continents and Antarctica.

Professional / Community: I am the past Chairman of the small law firm section of the Allegheny County Bar Association and I served three terms on the Pennsylvania Bar Association Animal Law Committee. I occasionally teach continuing education courses to other lawyers.

I served on the board of the South Western PA Lutheran Church Extension Society for 25 years.

I served three terms (9 years) on the Board of Trustees of the National Aviary.

I am the Past President of Swissvale Rotary Club and have 41 years of perfect attendance …so far.

I recently retired from serving on council for the Borough of Swissvale.

I am a member of MENSA and an Eagle Scout.

I am a past Worshipful Master of Swissvale Masonic Lodge 656. I also belong to the Scottish Rite and the Shriners. I am a 32 degree Mason.
