About Me
A few years ago, if you asked me why I write, I'd have told you I don't have a choice. The words batter down the walls of my subconscious until I have to let them out on the page (or screen) or lose my mind. Some would argue (and I'm thinking of my children here) that writing hasn't actually saved me from the fate of madness and they're probably right.
These days the motivation to write has gone deeper and lodged itself in a determination to add to the slowly growing pool of developing consciousness. There is much negativity in the world; too much abuse of human beings, of their spirits, and of course, of the Earth itself that nourishes us. Yet it only takes one candle to illuminate the darkness. Think what can be achieved by lighting other candles one by one. If my pen can help towards reaching that critical mass where earnest change begins, I am happy.
Negotiating the publishing world, both in cyberspace and in the ever-diminishing book and magazine market, I've had some moderate successes – three short stories, articles and some poems in an anthology. My real love is writing for adolescents as I have an affinity with their deep emotions and questions about life; and I believe it's a shame we generally lose that capacity for deep thought and alternative thinking as we grow older and perhaps, not so wise. I plan to complete to publishing stage, at least one of my first two novels, aimed at the nine to fourteen year age group, by the end of this year.
