Adrienne Geoghegan

A Little Bit about Me....... Author and illustrator, Adrienne Geoghegan has written and illustrated many picture books for children over the past 15 years. Her love of painting and drawing started at an early age, and she has never looked back. Adrienne studied design and illustration in Kingston University in the UK, where she was awarded a first class BA(hons) degree and commendation for her Major Project. She continued her career for some years in London, illustrating for many prestigious publishers, newspapers and magazines in the UK including The Guardian and the Economist. In 1994 Adrienne returned to her native Dublin, and worked in a shared studio. She also lectured part time for seven years in DIT - Visual Communications Degree Course 1997 to 2003. Adrienne's work has been translated into many languages and has worked for Macmillan Children's Books, Oxford University Press, Hazar UK, Scholastic Children's Books, Francis Lincoln Children's Books UK, Ladybird, Readers Digest Children's Books, and Bloomsbury Children's Books amongst others. She has also worked for many years illustrating freelance for the Irish Times, Business and Finance, Sunday Business Post, Irish Independent amongst others. Adrienne has also lectured extensively on her subject in colleges and libraries around the country as well as DIT Visual Communication, NCAD Illustration Master Classes, Independent Colleges Evening Diploma – writing and illustration picture-book diploma, Ballyfermot College of Higher Education workshops and lectures, and the National Gallery of Ireland Summer Lecture series 2009. After the birth of her son in 2004, Adrienne set up a 'My Very Own Picture' a children's limited edition fine art company, supplying small gift retailers, galleries, and Habitat Ireland, (however with the downturn a lot of these businesses no longer flourished.) In 2006 Adrienne was shortlisted for the Bisto award for her picture book illustrations in 'Fancy That. Adrienne runs Creative Boot Camp courses in Dublin all year round. Adrienne is currently working towards an exhibition, in her home studio, of her shadow boxes, printed ephemera and paintings. A more recent piece can be viewed in the Science Museum in Dublin ‘Elements’ exhibition.
