Xavier Amatriain

I am currently managing a team of researchers and engineers creating next-generation personalized experiences at Netflix. I like to work on the cross-roads of machine learning, software engineering, innovation, and agile methods. I currently live in San Jose, California.

Previous to this, I was a researcher at Telefonica Barcelona. My research focus was on Recommender Systems and neighboring areas such as Data Mining, User Modeling, Social Networks, and e-Commerce. I have authored more than 50 papers in books, journals and international conferences, and I was General Chair for the 2010 ACM Recommender Systems Conference. I have also lectured in several universities such as UPF in Barcelona, and UCSB in California.

At UCSB, I co-directed the Allosphere project. During my PhD, I worked on multimedia systems and audio processing. I lead the CLAM open source project.

My hometown is Barcelona. After Barcelona, Santa Barbara also has a place in my heart. And, yes, I love soccer. I am a runner (have run several halfs and one full so far). I also love music (had a band a long time in the past), reading, writing, and movies.
