Hi guys! Thanks for stopping by. I write the blog www.journey2med.wordpress.com which, yep you guessed it, is about me trying to get into Graduate Medicine at The University of Melbourne. In 2013 i'll be in the 3rd and final year of my undergraduate Biomedicine degree at unimelb.

My blog is not so much about the triviallites of getting into medicine as it is about my day to day life, the personal challenges i face, the expectations that have been put on me and the ways i try, and often fail, to live up to these. This blog is about the insecurities of a medical student wannabe and hopefully something that many of you can relate to.

Neither of my parents have any form of higher education and i went to a very low performing public high school. I'm not particularly smart but I'm extremely hard working and this is what has gotten me through so far. I was failing school until halfway through year 11 (I failed first semester Chemistry, Methods and Physics) when i decided i wanted to be a doctor so i kicked into gear and haven't really looked back. I ended up getting the highest ATAR of any student ever from my school by 7.35 points and got offered a place in Biomedicine because i was above the clearly in, not because of disadvantaged background etc.

Over the last two years, In addition to full-time university, I concurrently completed a full time Diploma of Nursing from RMIT. I now work in the Operating Theatre's of two Major Melbourne Public Hospitals. I will discuss my experiences in theatre in my blog, however the stories i describe will be amalgamations of a number of events primarily for privacy reasons, but also to help me make my point.

So jump on over to Journey2Med and have a read!! Feel free to comment and ask me questions. Talk soon, Xav.
