Xuan Wang
My hometown is Tianjin, China. It is a port city in Northern China. Tianjin is very close to the capital city of China - Beijing. Now the intra-city train between Tianjin and Beijing takes only 30 minutes.
When I was 18 years old, I decided to go to a college not in Tianjin, my hometown, or in Beijing where also many good universities reside in. I went to Shanghai, a charming city in south of China. When I was just 2 or 3 years old, my father told me that I should go to a place away from home to study after high school.
I went to Shanghai in 2004 and left in 2011. Seven years. In the seven years, I moved eight times. Each time packing and unpacking made me understand the city better and became stronger both physically and mentally. :D
In 2006, I got a chance to go to Sweden, Vajxo University as an exchange student. I was probabaly the first generation of international exchange student in China. My school was a pioneer in running I was so eager to go out and see more about the world. The one year in Sweden, I chose master level courses and a master level thesis when I was in the third year in college. After one year, I got one email from my supervisor whether I would like to stay Sweden and pursue a PHD degree. My supervisor till today is still one of the people who influence me most. But at that time, I didn't feel I was ready to set down and continue doing research in computer science. I went back to Shanghai and continue my study in my home university.
