Yancy Villa-Calvo
Mexican by heart and Memphian by choice. I was born in Mexico City and have lived in Memphis for almost 20 years. Also, have lived and traveled in Latin America, Africa, and Europe. The freedom of spirit from painting with acrylic, an experience that accidentally was discovered while in college, changed the course of my life. After experiencing health issues, I developed a passion to portray the beauty on the simple things that matter in life. Color saturation, wood surfaces, vivid acrylic tones, and anonymous images create an effect that captures a moment, and allows you to imagine and conclude. The use of rich, vivid colors naturally emerges from my Latino background and the combination of gold and dark browns from the intense experiences in Africa. Being an immigrant has allow me to appreciate the passion of my culture and the richness of my home town using the rich fusion to express and create. INSPIRATIONS God, my family and my Latin background. Different cultures. The passion in life. The bright colors and contrast of light in a subject when I stop and really see. Other artists and people who have taken risks. The simplicity of objects with a history. People who live ordinary lives but deserve to be exposed as extraordinary. MAKES MY WORLD GO ROUND My wonderful husband and awesome children. My friends!!! The excitement every day brings. Diversity bringing together all different colors in this world. The adventure I dive into with every painting.
