Yanik Ethier

Yanik grew up in northern Ontario, studied theatre in Ottawa, and is currently acting, writing, and producing work in Montreal. An honored graduate of the Algonquin Theatre Program, Yanik has also studied the Meisner technique with the late Jacqueline McClintock, and acting for film with Jock Macdonald at Carter Thor Studios East.

Yanik’s most memorable roles are Mr. Hardlong in Timberlake Wertenbaker’s The Grace Of Mary Traverse, Phil in Neil Labute’s The Shape Of Things, and Sheriff Carroll in Jensen and Blank’s The Exonerated. He has also written, produced and acted in two critically acclaimed one man shows, I Wish I Was Freddy Dylan Etheridge and Serving Something.

A founding member of Third Eye Ensemble, a Montreal theatre company, Yanik is now its artistic director. He is looking to collaborate with local or Canadian playwrights to produce work addressing issues of current events. The Ensemble’s mandate is to provoke thought and communication about social, environmental, and political issues through education and entertainment with the aim of encouraging a paradigm shift.

Yanik has starred in various short films. The short dance-film, Der Untermensch was represented by Telefilm Canada at the 2013 Festival de Cannes’ Film Market and Short Film Corner, the Fantasia Film Festival, and the Toronto International Film Festival. The short film Please Breathe, Lucy has been featured at the 28th Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Market, Toronto’s 2013 Wild Sound Festival, as well as Montreal’s Mascara and Popcorn Film Festival.
