Lim Yaohui
Photographer in Singapore
Lim Yaohui worked at the Singapore Botanic Gardens after graduating from the National University of Singapore in 2007. As a horticulturist, his job involved planting trees and taking care of plants in Rainforest, Symphony Lake, Heliconia Walk and Palm Valley.
In 2012, he left to pursue photography full time. After freelancing more than three years, he is now a staff photographer with The Straits Times in 2016.
Yaohui pays immaculate attention to details and hopes to use photography as a medium to help those who do not have the opportunity to express themselves. He has been involved in photography mentorship projects like Youths With Cameras with The Choice Initiative and InsideOut with Migrant Voices - projects with problematic children and migrant workers in Singapore to give them a voice through photography.
His works have won several national and international accolades, including honorable mentions in the International Photography Award (IPA) in 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, gold award (Press/Nature/Environmental category, 2015), bronze award (Portrait/Culture category, 2011) and honorable mention (Press/Feature Story, 2012) in the Prix de la Photographie Paris (Px3) competition.
